FULL COURT CONDOLENCE MEETING IN CHIEF JUSTICE’S COURT ON 15.02.2006 AT 3.30 P.M TO MOURN THE SAD DEMISE OF JUSTICE ASHOK ABHAIENDRA DESAI, A FORMER JUDGE OF THIS COURT.

We have assembled here this afternoon to mourn the sad demise of Justice A.A. Desai, a former Judge of this Court.

 Justice Desai was born on 24.6.1942.  After obtaining Law Degree he was enrolled as an Advocate and started practicing before Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench since December 1969. Justice Desai handled Civil, Criminal and Constitutional matters and had experience of both Original and Appellate side work. He worked as lecturer in the University College of Law of Nagpur from 1978 to 1980. He was elected as President of the District Bar Association in 1980-82. In October 1980, he was appointed as Assistant Government Pleader on the Legal Advisory Committee of Nagpur University by the Governor. He also worked as Standing Counsel for Punjabrao Krishi Vidyapeeth Akola, the Maharashtra State Co-operative Land Development Bank and the National Textile Corporation. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on November 21, 1986. Thereafter he became permanent Judge of that Court on June 15, 1987. He was transferred from Bombay High Court to Allahabad High Court on March 8, 1999. On December 6, 2000 he became the first Chief Justice of Uttranchal High Court but later on he resigned from the post of Chief Justice and started practicing in Supreme Court.

 Justice Desai died on 9.2.2006 due to heart attack.

We express our heart-felt condolence to the members of the bereaved family.

We pray to God that He may grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the members of the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
