Hon’ble Mr. Justice
Hemant Laxman Gokhale has taken over as Chief Justice of Allahabad High
Court. His Excellency T.V. Rajeshwar, Governor of
Uttar Pradesh administered oath of office and secrecy to Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale
in a simple ceremony in Chief Justice’s Court on March 7, 2007. Born on 10.03.1949 in Gujrat,
he obtained his post graduate degree in Arts from University of Bombay and
passed LL.M. from Government Law College,
Bombay.
He enrolled as an advocate with Bar Council of Maharastra.
He practised in Civil, Constitution, Labour and
Service Laws and specialised in Industrial and
Service matters. He worked as an Assistant Government Pleader to the State of Maharashtra in the Bombay High Court on the Original and Appellate Side
during 1984-1989. He worked as part time Professor of Law at the Government Law College, Bombay from 1977-84. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the
Bombay High Court on 20.01.1994 and transferred to the Gujrat
High Court on 04.02.1994. He was appointed permanent Judge on 23.01.1995. He
was transferred back to the Bombay High Court on 25.02.1999. He was appointed
Acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court on 12.01.2007. He took oath as Chief
Justice of Allahabad High Court on 07.03.2007.
