FULL COURT CONDOLENCE MEETING IN CHIEF JUSTICE’S COURT ON 3.05.2006 AT 3.30 P.M TO MOURN THE SAD DEMISE OF JUSTICE D.N. JHA, FORMER CHIEF JUSTICE OF THIS COURT.

We have assembled here this afternoon to mourn the sad demise of Justice D.N. Jha, former Chief Justice of this Court.

 Justice Jha was born on 16.7.1925 at Aligarh. He had his education at G. I. C., Allahabad, G.I.C. Moradabad, Meerut College, Meerut and at Allahabad University.  After passing M.A. LL.B. he was enrolled as an Advocate on 18.4.1952 at Lucknow and started practising at Lucknow Bench of this Court. He had lucrative practice on civil, criminal and taxation side. He was in the Panel of Criminal Lawyers in the High Court at Lucknow during 1954 to 1959. He was appointed as Standing Counsel for the Ministry of Labour, Government of India in 1957. He was also appointed as Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department in October 1970 and for Warehousing Corporation in July 1972.  He was appointed as Senior Law Officer of the U.P. S.R.T.C. in November 1972. He assumed the office of Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on 6.8.1973 and was appointed as Permanent Judge on 4.8.1975. He became the Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court from 1.5.1987 and was sworn in as Chief Justice on 14.7.1987.

He was the Chartered President of the Rotary Club (Khas) Lucknow and President of the Lucknow Golf Club.

Justice Jha died on 1.5.2006 leaving behind his wife, two married daughters, daughter-in-law and a grand son.

We express our heart-felt condolence to the members of the bereaved family.

We pray to God that He may grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the members of the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
